Mixed Media & Recovery

Between 2006-2017 I put art on hiatus for a very long time to learn and explore other creative outlets, such as photography. In 2017 I was diagnosed with a rare disorder called SSCD (superior semicircular canal dehiscence) and that same year I had brain surgery to repair the hole behind my inner ear. The surgery was not as successful as planned and I never fully regained my sense of balance. Because of this condition I have severe eye convergence, and not so great proprioception which is how you perceive your body in space. I knew then that I was going to be very limited on things I could photograph so I picked up my camera and started to practice taking pictures of the flowers in my garden. I was especially enamored with dead flowers, they were just as beautiful in their own way with more mysterious and provocative curves. Unfortunately I never regained the ability to photograph certain things. This floral mixed media work is what came out during my recovery period. Prints (4x6) available upon request.
